We told you last month about the layoff of 250 people at a Siouxland call center. Now, those people might be able to get their jobs back.
Stream Global Services announced today they're looking to hire 500 people in its Sergeant Bluff, Iowa technical support call center.
The company told us two weeks ago they needed to lay-off staff because of a drop in one major client. But they've added additional gaming platform services for one of their existing consumer electronics clients to the site. "Today's announcement is another indication of Stream's commitment to Sergeant Bluff and to the broader Siouxland region," said Chris McGowan, President, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. "It is also confirmation of the private sector's recognition that Stream's trained and talented workforce is capable of providing a variety of service programs to multiple companies and industries."
Stream handles customer service and support calls for several national and international clients... including Apple, Nike and Sirius-XM satellite radio.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening of Everest University's online education service center.
Two hundred jobs have already been filled, while 400 more will be filled over the next 24 months.
University Online will hire for call center jobs, including admissions, representatives, student finance planners and student services advisors.
The company says they are looking to hire more than 200 customer service representatives between now and June.
They will also be hosting an on-site job fair at its call center in Harlingen.
The first is set for Tuesday, April 19 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, April 20 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The call center is located at 2809 East Grimes Avenue.
According to administrators employees can earn between $9.00-$12.60 within the first nine months of employment, along with full benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), tuition reimbursement and free DISH Network TV service.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Sisters Shenna Wyche and Sheba Dixon are out of work.
"My sister and I are looking for jobs," says Wyche. "I've been unemployed for probably almost two years now."
They, with hundreds of others, hope ICF International is the answer.
"It's hard to find a job out here in this area I guess because there's really not a lot in this area to choose from," she says.
"I feel like this company is going to bring a lot of jobs and a lot of hope for people," says Dixon. "I mean because you don't have to have that college degree."
The work offered is largely for a call center soon to open in Henry County. ICF does surveys for government offices like the Centers for Disease Control. They also process rebates for Energy Star appliances. The company is looking for office skills.
"The ideal candidate for the job here would be someone who has experience perhaps in a call center, perhaps someone who has done back office type of work," says public affairs director for ICF, Steven Anderson.
The job fair comes to Martinsville as unemployment still hovers above ten percent... Now once the paperwork is done, applicants hope they won't be part of the statistic anymore.
"I've actually been looking for work since last January," says Barry Turner. "It's just not been any luck out here."
"Martinsville is ready to boom again," says Wyche. "It's ready and there's a lot of people that need work."

A similar number of employees was added a year ago at Sitel, located in Commerce Park.
"The last expansion resulted in tremendous personnel growth, with many of those call center agents moving into managerial roles," said John Miller, site director of the company's Oak Ridge facility.
Sitel is seeking new employees to provide "inbound call center services for a leading consumer loan banking and casualty insurance company," according to a news release.
The new client isn't identified.
The company intends to hire more consumer loan associates and property casualty licensed insurance agents, officials said.
Sign-on bonuses are being offered to currently licensed insurance agents, while pre-certification training will be given qualified applicants with general knowledge of the banking, credit and mortgage industries.
Sitel merged with ClientLogic, which formerly operated the Oak Ridge customer service center, in 2007. That Oak Ridge facility opened in 1999.
"We are looking for people who are good, warm, friendly, genuine, Midwest folks who like to help people," said Holland site director Patrick Blanchard. "And they should sound that way on the telephone."

Allconnect Inc. plans to spend nearly $7 million to open a 32,000-square-foot in-bound sales and customer support center on the Coldstream Research Campus.
"It's good to welcome Allconnect, a new corporate citizen bringing jobs to Lexington," Mayor Jim Gray said in a statement. "Our people need jobs, and we need to compete in every arena."
Commerce Lexington chief executive Bob Quick said, "Lexington is thrilled to be the top city selected amongst four cities and three states."

Allconnect is based in Atlanta, and its call center employees will work with consumers to order or transfer home services such as satellite and cable television, Internet, telephone and home security. The company's customers include AT&T, Dish Network, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and Verizon.
The jobs are expected to pay an average hourly wage of $12.51, including benefits, according to information the company provided to the state. The company has been approved for $2.2 million in tax incentives by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
The Wellesley, Mass., company said in its prepared announcement that it plans a "vigorous" recruitment campaign to fill the positions immediately.
Stream said the announcement is a result of a new business agreement to deliver customer care support services for a leading e-commerce company. As part of the agreement, Stream will provide customer care and web support services for the client's premier customers, according to the statement.
"We are extremely excited to be bringing this new client program and job opportunities to the Watertown community," Stream Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kathy Marinello said in a release. "This growth in new business is a testament to the exceptional talent we have available at Stream, as well as our ability to provide the highest quality of support and services to our clients' customers."
Stream's Watertown service center, in the former Woolworth department store in City Center Plaza, handles customer service and technical support programs for several leading Fortune 1,000 corporations.
Karen Falcone, the company's vice president of global marketing, said the company will be looking for candidates with experience in customer service and technical support, although experience is not a requirement for the positions. She could not say Wednesday night how many people now are working at Stream in Watertown.

Orlando, Fla.-based Connextions Inc. said Thursday that growing demand for its call center-based services prompted the expansion.
The company plans to hire 800 people for the Charlotte facility and add 400 jobs in Concord.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 61,000-square-foot facility in Charlotte is scheduled for July. The company plans to hold a hiring fair the same day.
Connextions President Steven Auerbach says the expansion is in keeping with the company's "onshore" philosophy. All of its more than 4,000 total employees are based in the United States.
